Short Description ![]() | It was a royal monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary, an institution of the 11th century. Known today only from written sources. In the settlement of Chortiatis, near the monastery, there are still ruins of the fortified enclosure of the monastery and a church, probably the funerary one of the monastery complex. The church, dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Saviour, is the only octagonal one in the mainland of Greece. Apart from the importance of the architecture of the monument, the preserved wall paintings are respectively memorable, dating to the second half of the 12th century (Komnenian art).
